Policy on the Frontlines: Narrative Research for Immigrant Well-being

Client: Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Topic Area: Immigrant health
Service: Applied Research

With funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, LZC is conducting applied research on the role of narratives in shaping frontline workers’ implementation of policies that advance immigrant inclusion and well-being. In partnership with the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) and in consultation with Wonder: Strategies for Good, LZC will identify a policy area of focus for an in-depth case study. LZC will hire four community researchers, who will co-facilitate focus groups with immigrant families in Massachusetts to inform our understanding of existing policy inclusion gaps. LZC will conduct web scraping of publicly available data to analyze narratives of frontline worker institutions and the potential health effects of narrowing the gap in this area. The research team will then facilitate focus groups with frontline workers in this policy area to test the ability of strategic data and messaging to influence a shift in ideologies. With MIRA, LZC will disseminate the tested narrative and data tools to key audiences in Massachusetts.Â
